Water Restrictions
Outdoor water use schedules and drought response levels for Georgia.
General Outdoor Water Use Schedule
Unless a drought is declared, Georgia law allows citizens to water their lawns or landscapes on any day between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m. However, the Environmental Protection Division recommends adhering to the odd/even schedule below:

Drought Response Levels
Level 1
Outdoor water use may occur on scheduled days between midnight–10 a.m. and 4 p.m.–midnight. Use of hydrants is restricted to firefighting, public health/safety or flushing.
Level 2
Outdoor water use is limited to midnight–10 a.m. on the scheduled day. Additional restrictions prohibit washing vehicles, filling swimming pools and using water for ornamental purposes.
Level 3
Outdoor water use may occur only on the scheduled day between midnight–10 a.m. with further prohibitions on filling pools, washing vehicles and non‑commercial car washes.
Level 4
No outdoor water use is allowed other than exempted activities such as food gardens, reuse systems and activities essential to business operations.
Exemptions
- Reuse of cooling system condensate or storm water
- Reuse of gray water
- Irrigation of personal food gardens
- Newly installed landscapes (in place less than 30 days)
- Professional landscapers and irrigation contractors during installation and for maintenance
- Activities essential to business, such as commercial car washes and power washing
