About us
How the Authority is structured, governed, and recognized.
What we do
The Authority treats surface water from Lake Sinclair to meet all federal and state drinking-water standards, then delivers it wholesale to Baldwin and Putnam counties through separate systems. Created under Georgia House Bill 398, it is a public, wholesale-only transmission entity governed by a five-member board and subject to an annual independent audit.
Georgia Public Water System No. GA2370087 · surface-water source · wholesale service.
Our history
From the damming of the Oconee River to a modern membrane-filtration plant.
Lake and Authority timeline
Georgia Power began the Furman Shoals project on the Oconee River in 1929; its 3,000-foot dam, completed in the early 1950s, honors company engineer Benjamin W. Sinclair — as does the lake.
Baldwin and Putnam counties formed the Sinclair Water Authority in 2001, later joined by the City of Eatonton, and dedicated today's ultrafiltration plant on September 25, 2008.
