Job Title: Maintenance Technician
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Plant Manager / Lead Operator

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the routine and non-routine maintenance and operation of the SWA water treatment plant to ensure safe, potable water is distributed to customers in Baldwin and Putnam Counties, including compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Primary responsibilities will consist of repairing and maintaining water plant equipment and the position will also be required to perform shift operator duties.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Minimum Training and/or Experience to Perform Essential Job Functions: Education level commonly associated with the completion of a High School Diploma or GED. Ability to obtain a Georgia Class III Water Treatment License with six (6) months of employment is required. Candidates are subject to a criminal background, motor vehicle report check and drug test.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and/or provide service.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Some work may involve percentages, ratios, and other more complex mathematical computations.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written form in a professional manner. Primary communication is with SWA employees and SWA Board members. Additionally, periodic contact with regulatory officials, the general public and other water agencies and authorities may be required.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to interpret water quality analysis data and determine compliance, non-compliance or potential non-compliance and determine if corrective action is warranted.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: While performing the duties of this job, intermittent sitting, standing, bending, or stooping is regularly required. The incumbent must be able to routinely lift and/or carry light to moderately heavy objects, climb ladders, use tools or equipment that require a high degree of dexterity, and distinguish between shades of colors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: The work environment is within an office with noise levels usually moderate to very loud; however, it is necessary to work outside at times regardless of the weather. Routine work may expose the incumbent to the following: machinery and its moving parts; sharp tools; smoke, fumes, irritating chemicals, or toxic conditions; and high places. The work environment requires the use of protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, masks, etc.
